Encouraging Humanity In Digital World

The digital age has arrived and established itself all over. We have moved a step ahead of the age of smartphones. What we have now is humans installing chips into their bodies and becoming more of a gadget, and gadgets being improved every day in a direction of developing a smarter Artificial Intelligence to become more human.

What is lost in this exchange is a human connection. We are the most connected generation of humans that ever existed on the planet. However, we are also probably the loneliest humans to ever exist. The reason is simple. What we connect with these days is not another human being, but another device.

All said and done, the biggest challenge that the human race is facing this time is to stay human and preserve the traits that make us different from all other life forms that exist on earth. Technology shows a ray of light in this direction too. If used properly, it can prove to be the most efficient tool to preserve the legacy of Homo sapiens.

Digital advancements provide a way to connect better. We live in an age where distances have vanished. One-touch and you can see and talk to another person living in the farthest corner of the world. This can be used by us to enable people to make them more efficient and productive. Take up an online course, develop your skills and become more productive for the combined workforce of the planet rather than wasting the resources for the idle connection.

The importance of staying outdoors is one of the unhealthiest aspects of the digital age. People born in the ’90s are often seen being nostalgic about how they have spent their childhood by being engaged in outdoor sports. But not even 20 years have passed, and we see children glued to the screens of mobile phones, TV, and laptops. Thus, it is most important that people spend time with their families, especially children. So, take a break from the screen and go out for a walk.

These days, we are experiencing the emergence of a whole new set of physical and mental illnesses that exist only because we are too dependent and addicted to our gadgets. But it is also certain that we have moved past the point where life without technology was still a possibility. In fact, what we need to cultivate presently is a culture where technology is used to connect and understand better with each other on a more human level.

However fast is the connection that people can establish these days with each other, there is a lingering sense of lost privacy in the digital generation. Scams like data leaks have become a part of our everyday life. People are using the most updated technologies to share their lives with others. But what we do not realize is that we are also giving up our basic human rights like the right to privacy. It looks ideal to post an update on social media for every new thing we do. But it is also very important to understand where to draw a line because the same technology can also be used to interfere and disturb the peace of anyone’s life.

It may be true that the challenges we face in the digital age are new and unseen for the human race. But the effects caused by them on individuals have been the same as what we have seen through history. In a world where more and more people are disoriented and disconnected from each other, it is our responsibility to care and support each other and work towards a better future together. Let technology stay an invention of humans and do not let it re-invent us.
